When it comes to maintaining a low-carb lifestyle while still enjoying a delicious cocktail, I’ve got you covered. I lost 80 pounds on a low carb journey, and I’m here to share one of my favorite hacks with you – a refreshing and zesty low carb, sugar-free spicy margarita. This cocktail is not only a guilt-free delight but also incredibly simple to whip up. Say goodbye to those high-sugar margarita mixes and join me on this flavor-packed journey.
Creating the Jalapeno Sugar-Free Simple Syrup: To begin our low carb sugar-free spicy margarita adventure, let’s craft the star of the show – the jalapeno sugar-free simple syrup. Here’s how to do it:
- Slice up a Serrano pepper (or your preferred variety).
- In a small saucepan, combine half a cup of water and half a cup of your favorite sweetener (I’m using monk fruit).
- Add the sliced peppers to the mix.
- Heat over medium-high heat until the sweetener dissolves and it begins to bubble.
- Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 5-10 minutes.
- Strain the mixture to separate the jalapenos from the syrup.
- Transfer the jalapeno sugar-free simple syrup into a container with a lid and store it in the fridge for up to two weeks.
Prepping Your Margarita Glass: For an extra touch of flair, let’s create a spicy rim for your margarita glass:
- Use sugar-free chamoy or lime juice to coat the rim of your glass.
- Roll the coated rim in low-sodium Tajin for that perfect kick.
Mixing Up the Spicy Margarita: Now, it’s time to assemble your low carb sugar-free spicy margarita:
- Fill your shaker with ice.
- Add 2 ounces of tequila.
- Squeeze in the juice of half a lime.
- Pour in 1 ounce of your homemade jalapeno sugar-free simple syrup.
- Instead of triple sec or cointreau which are high in sugar and carbs, enhance the flavor with a few dashes of orange bitters.
- Give it all a good shake to blend those vibrant flavors.
Serving Your Low Carb Sugar-Free Spicy Margarita: Pour your well-shaken concoction into your prepared margarita glass with that irresistible spicy rim. The combination of tequila’s warmth, zesty lime, and the subtle kick of jalapeno creates a sensational low-carb margarita that’s worth savoring. Cheers to sipping smartly and living well!
