Today, I’m excited to share my easy and healthy chicken tikka masala recipe with you. Growing up in a South Asian household, this was a favorite comfort meal and is bursting with flavors — and fits perfectly into a low-carb or keto lifestyle.

Easy, Healthy Chicken Tikka Masala
Ingredients
- 1 ½ pounds boneless skinless chicken thighs cut into 1-inch chunks
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
- 1 ½ tablespoons avocado oil
- ½ medium red onion diced
- 3 tablespoons tomato paste
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
- 1 ½ teaspoons garam masala
- 1 ½ teaspoons chili powder
- 1 ½ teaspoons ground turmeric
- 2 roma tomatoes ripe
- 1 cup chicken broth bone broth for extra richness
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro leaves
Instructions
- Season the chicken chunks with 1 teaspoon of salt and 1/2 teaspoon of pepper.
- Heat 1 ½ tablespoons of avocado oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the chicken and diced red onion to the skillet.
- Cook until the chicken turns golden brown, which takes about 4-5 minutes.
- Stir in 3 tablespoons of tomato paste, minced garlic, freshly grated ginger, garam masala, chili powder, and ground turmeric.
- Cook for about 1 minute until the spices become fragrant.
- In a blender, puree the two Roma tomatoes and 1 cup of chicken bone broth until smooth.
- Pour the tomato and bone broth puree into the skillet with the chicken.
- Season it with salt and pepper to taste.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to simmer.
- Stir occasionally and let it cook for about 10 minutes or until it reduces and thickens.
- Finally, add 1/4 cup of heavy cream to the skillet.
- Stir until the cream is heated through, which takes about 1 minute.
- Serve your chicken tikka masala immediately, garnished with chopped fresh cilantro leaves.
