Keto Berry Blast Smoothie

Frozen berries have a permanent home in my freezer. Whether it’s from Costco or the Whole Foods brand which is affordable, they come in handy for all sorts of treats and because berries are low on the glycemic index and keto-approved AND high in fiber, it’s no wonder they are also make regular appearances in smoothies. This keto berry smoothie is one of our favorites.

This low carb, keto berry smoothie is a regular for my kids in the morning – I’ll sometimes throw in a banana for them but this is delicious and packed with the antioxidant power of berries plus MCT oil adds healthy fats and sustained energy.

Benefits of Berries

In addition to being among the lowest on the glycemic index, making berries keto-friendly in moderation, berries are LOADED in antioxidants – the highest among any fruit pretty much – which are essential to fighting free radicals, which are the leading cause of oxidative stress…which basically causes many of the issues we deal with as we age. Bottom line: we need antioxidants and berries are a keto-friendly and delicious way to get them in.

Berries also are a good source of fiber, which we also need on a ketogenic lifestyle. Because we take in so much protein and fat on a keto diet, our fiber intake can suffer so we have to be more aware of our fiber? (which on keto, high fiber foods are ok because fiber is removed from the carb count to calculate net carbs…what we use in keto for carb intake is NET CARBS which = TOTAL CARBS – FIBER – SUGAR ALCOHOLS.
