I almost always have keto simple syrup in my fridge. I made a mint-infused one for my low carb keto mojitos, but a quick version is to boil water and combine 1-part keto-friendly sweetener with 2-parts hot water. Shake it up in a bottle, allow to cool and voila – Low Carb Simple Syrup!
This simple syrup recipe is great for low carb cocktails and also can be used in fizzy, non-alcoholic drinks and whenever you would use regular simple syrup. I used to use Erythritol in my keto simple syrup recipe, but after Swerve hit the market, that’s been my go to alternative sweetener. I also have experimented with Lakanto Monkfruit which also works well – it’s really up to your preference. There are so many keto, alternative sweetener options available now that are made with quality ingredients, test with different options and see what you prefer most!
I’ll also use simple syrup for frozen treats – like keto popsicles or blending up a frozen margarita! You can also make a very quick keto triple sec by adding a few drops of orange extract to the syrup and can thicken it up with 1/8 tsp of Xanthan Gum for a thicker syrup. You can also experiment by infusing it with mint, as I mentioned above, or orange peels, savory herbs or whatever the keto mixologist inside you comes up with!
I whip up a batch and store it in a mason jar the fridge for up to two weeks.
