While I try to practice intermittent fasting as much as possible and avoid between meal snacks because they cause a spike in insulin which we try to avoid on a keto diet, sometimes you need a snack to get you through. I have some of my favorite store bought or prepared keto snack foods that I’ll round up soon, however it’s easy to prep simple keto snacks at home or pack them for when you’re on the go.
The key to keto snacks is to balance your macros — even with snacks – so. you maintain the right ratios and don’t have to over or under compensate later in the day. That can be difficult, which is why fat bombs are a popular end of day treat to make sure you achieve your fat macros. These top keto snacks that I love are perfectly balanced so you don’t have to worry about your macros when snacking.
Keto Snack #1: Bell Pepper and Egg Salad Boats
I discovered this tasty snack on TikTok where low carb snacks with bell peppers are all the rage. I love red bell peppers and egg salad, but never thought to combine the two! It’s simple – take two hard boiled eggs and make your favorite egg salad recipe. Halve a bell pepper (I always use red but you can use whatever color bell pepper you prefer). Since I made bell pepper recipes quite a bit, I bought this handy bell pepper coring tool on Amazon that makes removing the stem and core simple. Stuff the egg salad into the crater of the bell pepper and enjoy! I like to top it with a drizzle of my favorite, sugar free hot sauce, but I will put hot sauce on basically anything!
Keto Snack #2: Celery Sticks with Laughing Cow Wedges
Celery is a great, low carb snack veggie that’s easy to cut up and have on hand and high in fiber and water. I usually will cut up a few stalks of celery and dip or fill them with Laughing Cow’s original cheese wedges (1 – 2). It’s fresh and delicious and will really fill you up. Make sure you buy the full fat, Original version – not the low fat! I also spread the cheese on bell pepper sticks or even slices or pepperoni. I always have the cheese wedges in my fridge because they are easy to grab and go and are delicious with pretty much anything.
Keto Snack #3: Deviled Eggs
I love Deviled Eggs and have a few different recipes I go to often for my snacks. I always have hard boiled eggs prepared in the fridge, by the way. I prepare six at a time in my Instant Pot or Dash Rapid Egg Cooker so I never run out for deviled eggs or the egg salad recipe above! I love the Spicy Avocado Deviled Eggs because the avocado adds some more healthy fats and it is a great snack option because the extra fat helps sustain me until my next meal! Hard boiled eggs on their own are a great snack – but to balance out the macros I usually like to add a low carb vegetable or keto cracker with it.
Keto Snack #4: Fat Bombs
Even though I do usually opt for a fat bomb at the end of the day for a treat, they are also great to have on hand for a snack that for sure will help you power through between meals because the fat provides sustained energy and a feeling of fullness. I have 5 delicious fat bomb recipes on this page for you to try that can all be stored in the freezer to grab and go as needed! I like to add other nutrients like Collagen Powder or Maca Powder to my fat bombs for added anti-aging boosts!
Keto Snack #5: Chia Pudding
I always have a mason jar with Chia Pudding in my fridge too – it lasts a few days and is a great high fiber, nutrient packed keto snack that you can top with berries, low carb chocolate chips (my new favorite is ChocZero) and nuts for a satisfying treat in the middle of the day. While the recipe linked above uses a yogurt base, I also sometimes swap the yogurt for almond milk and let the mixture sit overnight in the fridge for a little bit lighter option that tastes just as great and is just as filling.
Keto Snack #6: Meat & Cheese with Olives
This is an easy snack to prep in advance – I get 4 – 5 of my favorite olives (usually jalapeno or blue cheese stuffed), a few slices of salami, pepperoni or prosciutto and cheese – I love havarti slices – and either wrap them together into individual little rolls or graze on them for a perfect keto snack that will fill me up for hours! I’ll sometimes make keto crackers or have the FatSnax crackers on hand for a little more substance and some crunch to this snack however I usually find I get full without!
Keto Snack #6: Chocolate, Berries & Nuts
This is my go to snack ALL THE TIME. I grab a square or two of the ChocZero milk chocolate squares which I am OBSESSED with, a handful of pecans (my favorite nuts and the lowest carb as well) and some blackberries or raspberries. Not only does this satisfy my sweet tooth and it feels like a treat, each element is packed with super nutrients and anti-oxidant goodness so while it seems indulgent and decadent – this is actually a terrific keto snack option because it offers the perfect keto macros and truly is good for you! Just make sure you go with a keto-approved chocolate like ChocZero or Lily’s.
Keto Snack #7: Keto Smoothie
If you’re a smoothie person, this is a great keto snack to whip up that many use as a meal replacement, but I usually take one of my favorite low carb smoothies recipes – click here for five great recipes – and half the recipe for a perfect pick me up. Because I usually put MCT oil and Protein Powder in my smoothies, they keep me full for hours. I use IsoPure’s Zero Carb protein powder in my smoothies usually, however if you’re on the go and making this in the office, Vital Proteins sells their collagen peptides (which offer protein and gut-friendly collagen) in single use packets which I love.
Keto Snack #8: Keto Mozzarella Sticks
Granted, this is a snack that does take a bit more time to prepare, but it’s worth it! I have these in my freezer already prepared so that all I have to do is pop as many as I want out and fry them up – you want to freeze them before cooking anyway so they retain their shape while frying, so I always make extra to store in the fridge for a quick, comforting snack. I love dipping this in Rao’s spicy Arrabbiata sauce – though any low sugar marinara also works well and my kids love them with ranch! Get the recipe here.?
Keto Snack #9: Low Carb Jalapeno Poppers
This is another one that takes a few extra minutes to prepare, but are great appetizers or snacks that you can make and then microwave later to warm up again. I like to make these in the air fryer and save a few in the fridge for a midday snack. The cream cheese might get a little too soft when re-heating later, but I don’t mind the melty goodness. Plus, jalapenos are great for firing up the metabolism and keeping your engine burning! This keto snack has it all with crunch and creamy cheese and is great on it’s own or dipped in ranch. Get the recipe here.
Keto Snack #10: Chaffles!
This is another one of my go to snacks – I have a Dash Mini Waffle maker at home and at my office so that I can whip up a chaffle anytime. I have started to get super creative with my chaffles – I make taco chaffles using leftover taco meat from our Taco Tuesdays and mix all sorts of meat, pickles, cheese and more into the batter for a hearty low carb snack that is fun to make and eat! Get my three favorite chaffle recipes here.
There are hundreds of options for keto friendly snacks – these are a few to get you started and stay tuned as I add more!
